Summer Hiking in Hocking Hills: Explore the Best Trails Just Minutes from Streams & Dreams

If you're planning a summer getaway to Hocking Hills, there is no better way to experience Ohio's natural beauty than by hitting the trails. Towering sandstone cliffs, hidden waterfalls, peaceful forests, and breathtaking overlooks make Hocking Hills one of the Midwest's premier hiking destinations.

One of the biggest advantages of staying at Streams & Dreams at Laurel Run is our location. While many visitors spend a large part of their vacation driving from one trailhead to another, our luxury Airstream accommodations place you just minutes from some of Hocking Hills' most spectacular hikes.

Whether you're an experienced hiker or simply looking for a relaxing walk through nature, you'll find unforgettable adventures just outside your door.

Why Summer Is a Great Time to Visit

Spring is known for its rushing waterfalls, but summer brings a different kind of beauty to Hocking Hills. The forests are full and vibrant, wildflowers line the trails, and the sandstone gorges stay surprisingly cool thanks to their dense tree canopy and towering rock walls.

Early mornings and evenings are especially enjoyable for hiking. After a day on the trails, you can return to your private hot tub, unwind in your private sauna, and relax around the fire pit while enjoying the peaceful surroundings.

Stay Close to Two of Hocking Hills' Hidden Gems

One of the things our guests appreciate most is our location.

Streams & Dreams at Laurel Run sits almost perfectly between two of Hocking Hills' most scenic hiking destinations. Both are less than five miles away, making it easy to explore more while spending less time in the car.

Rock House

Located less than five miles from Streams & Dreams, Rock House is one of the most unique destinations in Hocking Hills.

It is the only true cave in Hocking Hills State Park. Naturally carved into a 150-foot sandstone cliff, the cave features towering Gothic-style openings that overlook the forest below. The combination of dramatic rock formations and sweeping views makes it one of the area's most memorable hikes.

The trail is moderate in difficulty and can easily be completed in the morning, leaving plenty of time to enjoy the rest of your day.

Why you'll love Rock House:

  • Less than five miles from Streams & Dreams
  • The only true cave in Hocking Hills State Park
  • Incredible sandstone formations
  • Beautiful overlooks and photo opportunities
  • Moderate hike for most skill levels

Conkle's Hollow

Travel less than five miles in the opposite direction and you'll discover one of Ohio's most beautiful nature preserves.

Conkle's Hollow is known for its towering sandstone cliffs, peaceful atmosphere, and shaded hiking trails. The lower gorge trail is relatively flat and accessible for most visitors, while the rim trail offers breathtaking views high above the valley.

Because it is a dedicated nature preserve, Conkle's Hollow often feels quieter than some of the more popular areas of Hocking Hills.

Why you'll love Conkle's Hollow:

  • Less than five miles from Streams & Dreams
  • Beautiful shaded trails
  • Easy lower gorge hike
  • Scenic rim trail with panoramic views
  • Peaceful setting that is perfect for slowing down and enjoying nature

Summer Hiking Tips

A little preparation will help you make the most of your visit.

  • Start your hikes early to enjoy cooler temperatures and fewer crowds.
  • Carry plenty of water, especially on warmer days.
  • Wear comfortable hiking shoes with good traction.
  • Bring bug spray and sunscreen.
  • Stay on marked trails to help preserve the area's natural beauty.
  • Keep your phone or camera handy because you'll find photo opportunities around every corner.

Remember to Shower Before the Hot Tub

After a day of hiking, you will probably be ready to relax in your private hot tub. Before you hop in, take a quick shower.

Rinsing off sunscreen, bug spray, sweat, dirt, and trail dust helps keep the water cleaner, reduces the amount of sanitizer the hot tub needs, and creates a better soaking experience for both you and future guests.

It only takes a minute, but it makes a big difference.

After spending the day exploring waterfalls, caves, and scenic overlooks, your adventure can continue back at Streams & Dreams at Laurel Run.

Enjoy everything your luxury Airstream has to offer, including:
